Thailand is famous for its dazzling and spectacular palaces and temples throughout the country. The Grand Palace of Bangkok is an example of historical and spectacular structure. It is often regarded as one of the most illustrious buildings in the whole of Thailand. The Grand Palace is undoubtedly the most famous structure in the city of Bangkok. It has been the major architectural symbol of the Thai Royal Family since the founding of Bangkok. Currently it serves as a regular venue for important state and religious functions.

Located next to the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, in the heart of Bangkok, the Grand Palace is one of Thailand's most majestic and recognizable landmarks. It used to be the main residence of precious monarchs and has been the official residence of the Kings of Thailand since 1782. Construction of the Grand Palace began on 6 May 1782 and has been expanded massively over the past two centuries.


The Grand Palace has an area of 218,400 square meters and is surrounded by walls built in 1782. It is still used for official events and the palace hosts several royal ceremonies and state functions within the walls of the palace every year. It is the chosen place for both weddings and funerals within the royal family.


The Grand Palace is made up of numerous buildings, halls, pavilions set around open lawns, gardens and courtyards. It is beautiful as an entire complex particularly because of its golden roofs. But it is the Wat Phra Kaew temple that is often seen as the palace's most beautiful section.
