The Moscow Kremlin at the heart of the city of Moscow is known simply as the Kremlin. It is a historic fortified complex and is the official residence of the Russian President. The Kremlin is the most famous citadel in the world.


It has been inextricably linked to all the most important historical and political events in Russia since the 13th century to the founding of St Petersburg. It was the residence of the Great Prince and also a religious center.


The Kremlin in one form or another has been on the same site for centuries. It is bounded on the south by the Moscow River, on the east by Red Square and St. Basil's Cathedral, and on the west by the old Alexander Gardens.

The Kremlin is home to a unique series of architectural masterpieces and religious monuments of exceptional architectural beauty built by outstanding Russian and foreign architects. At the foot of its ramparts, on Red Square, St Basil's Basilica is one of the most beautiful Russian Orthodox monuments.


Among the exceptional architectural masterpieces include the four cathedrals - the Church of the Annunciation, Cathedral of the Dormition, Church of the Archangel and the bell tower of Ivan Veliki. The Kremlin is home to five extremely beautiful palaces among which The Great Palace of the Kremlin and the Teremnoi Palace are most popular as extraordinary masterpieces of architecture.
