Namaqualand area appears to be a typical South African region with a semi-desert environment. It is remains dry and arid throughout most part of the year. However in the spring a miracle occurs as soon as the rains soak into the thirsty earth. The area is transformed into one that is filled with masses of lush plantation, with bright orange and sparkling white daisies shoot up from the once arid ground.

Namaqualand is quite popular with both local and international tourists during early springtime. During this short period of time this normally arid area becomes covered with a kaleidoscope of color. This is known throughout South Africa as the Namaqualand daisy season, when orange and white daisies, as well as hundreds of other flowering species, spring up from a previously barren landscape.

The Namaqualand spring flowers are world famous. These flowers paint an unforgettable picture throughout the whole region of Namaqualand literally overnight. The dusty valleys become filled with Namaqualand daisies and other spring flowers and transform the arid land into a wonderland, carpeted with wild flowers.
