The National Parliament House of Bangladesh was designed by the renowned architect Louis I. Kahn. It was a modernist design based on the aesthetic heritage of the country. Construction of the complex began in 1961 and was completed on 28 January, 1982. The parliament complex was officially opened on 15 February for the eighth session of the second parliament of Bangladesh and has since operated as the sole complex for the National Assembly.

However, entrance to the Main Building is limited to authorized members of Parliament and staff. The Crescent Lake and Chondrima Uddan are two important attractions of the complex. The Complex can be accessed using any of the four roads surrounding it, however, the Manik Mia Avenue and Lake Road are the easiest approaches. The area is one of the higher security zones of Dhaka.
