Badlands National Park in South Dakota, USA

Located in the southwestern part of of South Dakota, Badlands National Park is an amazing national park in the United States. The park is famous for its incredible rock formations and the undisturbed grass prairie. The park cover an area of 242,756 acres of sharply eroded buttes, pinnacles, and spires blended with the largest undisturbed mixed grass prairie in the country. Badlands National Park is host to perhaps the most scenic geology and landscape features in the United States.



The Badlands Wilderness protects 64,144 acres of the park as a designated wilderness area. The black-footed ferret, the most endangered land mammal in North America, is reintroduced in this area of the park. The highest point in Badlands National Park is the Red Shirt Table at 3,340 feet (1,020 meter) above sea level.



The area was authorized initially as Badlands National Monument on March 4, 1929. However, the monument was not established until January 25, 1939. Later the area was re-designated as a national park on November 10, 1978. Today, Badlands National Park is one of the most popular tourist destinations in South Dakota. It is home to an amazing geological landscape of rugged beauty.
