The Bailong Elevator - The Tallest Outdoor Elevator in the World

The Bailong Elevator is a glass elevator built onto the side of a huge sandstone column in a mountain range in China. This weird elevator is also known as the Hundred Dragons Elevators. The Bailong Elevator is more than 1,000 feet tall and is regarded as the world's tallest outdoor elevator.


The Bailong Elevator is located in the Wulingyuan area of Hunan Province in China. The elevator is 1,070 feet (300 meter) high and carries tourists up the side of the massive sandstone column. Construction of the elevator began in October 1999, and it was opened to the public by 2002.


Wulingyuan is one of the most popular tourist areas in China because of the massive natural sandstone pillars. Now the huge elevator has become an important part of the attraction of the area. It has become popular to tourists who are keen to ride a lift that now known be one of the most terrifying ride in the world for its sheer drop views down to the bottom of the valley.


The lift ride takes around a minute to reach the top, from where tourists can see breath-taking views of the area's quartzite sandstone pillars. After it was built, the lift was said to be the world's tallest full-exposure outdoor lift, tallest double-deck sightseeing elevator, and the fastest passenger elevator with the biggest capacity.

There are three glass lifts in the elevator and each carries 50 people at a time. The lift ride takes just around a minute to reach the top. The Hundred Dragons Elevator can carry 1,380 people an hour.
