Borobudur Temple - One of the Greatest Buddhist Monuments
Borobudur is a famous Mahayana Buddhist Temple located in Central Java, Indonesia. The Borobudur Temple Compounds is one of the greatest Buddhist monuments in the world. This famous Buddhist temple dates back from the 8th and 9th centuries during the reign of the Syailendra Dynasty.
This Buddhist monument was inhabited up until sometime between the 14th and 15th centuries when it was abandoned. It was rediscovered in the early nineteenth century and restoration have been made in the 20th century. The Borobudur Temple Compounds consists of three monuments: The Borobudur Temple, Mendut Temple and Pawon Temple. The Borobudur Temple is largest temple in the compound.
The monument consists of six square platforms topped by three circular platforms, and is beautifully decorated with 2,672 relief panels and 504 Buddha statues. The Borobudur Temple is still used by Buddhists for worshiping. It is world heritage site and has become a prominent attraction for people from all across the globe.
