Dead Sea - The Lowest Point on Earth

The Dead Sea is a salt lake bordering Jordan to the east and Israel and the West Bank to the west. The Dead Sea is one of the most spectacular natural and spiritual landscapes in the whole world. It is the lowest body of water on earth, the lowest point on earth and the world's richest source of natural salts.

It is an expansive piece of water that covers over 800 square kilometers. The Dead Sea's surface and shores are 423 meters (1,388 ft) below sea level, making it the earth's lowest elevation on land. The lake is 377 meters (1,237 ft) deep, making it the deepest hyper-saline lake in the world.

As its name evokes, the Dead Sea is devoid of life due to an extremely high content of salts and minerals. The water in this lake is some ten times saltier than sea water and rich in chloride salts of magnesium, sodium, potassium, bromine and several others. The water in the Dead Sea warm and is said to have curative powers and therapeutic qualities.

A unique combination of several factors makes Dead Sea's total attraction: the chemical composition of its water, the filtered sun-rays and oxygen-rich air, the mineral-rich black mud along the shoreline, and the adjacent fresh water and thermal mineral springs. The Dead Sea is flanked by mountains to the east and the rolling hills of Jerusalem to the west, giving it an almost other-worldly beauty. It has evolved into a major hub of both health & wellness tourism in the region.

Because of the extremely high salt content, one can float in the Dead Sea without even trying. Swimming here is a unique experience to have in a lifetime. The lowest spot on the face of the earth and a natural health spa - make it a site not to miss. It is the only place in the world where you can recline on the water to read a newspaper.
