Mount Kilimanjaro - The Highest Mountain in Africa

Mount Kilimanjaro is the world's tallest freestanding mountain, rising from cultivated farmlands on the lower levels, through lush rainforest to alpine meadows, and finally across a barren lunar landscape to the twin summits of Kibo and Mawenzi. It is a dormant volcanic mountain in Kilimanjaro National Park, Tanzania. With 5,895 meters above sea level, Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa.

Kilimanjaro is composed of three distinct volcanic cones: Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira. Uhuru Peak is the highest summit of Mount Kilimanjaro on Kibo's crater rim. It is one of the most familiar peaks in the world, rising in breathtaking isolation from the surrounding coastal scrub land.

Kilimanjaro is one of the world's most accessible high summits. It is one of the continent’s magnificent sights. With snow on the highest peak and boiling temperatures at the base, Mount Kilimanjaro has an array of unique and rare vegetation gracing it. Kilimanjaro, by any name, is a metaphor for the compelling beauty of East Africa. Kilimanjaro National Park, surrounding Mount Kilimanjaro, has become one of Tanzania’s most visited parks.
