Rajasthan in India - The Land of Kings
Situated in the north west part of India, Rajasthan is known as "the land of kings". It covers an area of over 342,000 square kilometers. It encompasses most of the area of the large, famous and inhospitable Thar Desert. Rajasthan is the largest state of India by area.
Rajasthan has a long, illustrious and interesting history. It is one of the top tourist destinations in the country. Tourism is a flourishing industry in Rajasthan as it is endowed with natural beauty and a great history. There are far too many places to visit in Rajasthan. The most important places to visit in Rajastan include - The palaces of Jaipur and Ajmer-Pushkar, the lakes of Udaipur, the desert forts of Jodhpur, Taragarh Fort in Bundi, and Bikaner and Jaisalmer.
Jaisalmer is known as the Golden City. The Mehrangarh Fort is a building that is over 500 years old stands atop a 400 foot mountain looking out over Jodhpur. The Aravalli Range is regarded as one of the oldest mountain ranges in the world, which has sections that are vastly different to almost anywhere else in the country.
